Ebook Faqs

What is an eBook?

An eBook is a book in digital form, readable on your desktop, laptop, Ipad, mobile phone and increasingly popular eReaders such as Kindle and Nook.

Why buy an eBook? Can't I just download off the Internet for free?

Many people do not realize that it is illegal to share eBook downloads or post them on the Internet. It is. Just like with music, electronic books may not be copied (except in the case of making a personal backup), resold, given away, or otherwise distributed. They may not be posted on the Internet for public use. The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of eBooks is considered copyright infringment and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. (Visit www.fbi.gov/ipr for more information.)

Please respect an author's hard work by refraining from stealing the little they receive. Making a lot of profit off the publication of a book is the exception, not the rule. The vast majority of authors are not rich. Writing a novel often takes an author months or even years of work and dedication for which they receive little compensation.

How do I know what format I need?

We offer three of the most popular formatsbut which do you need?

* PDF is for reading in Adobe Reader. Purchase this format if you intend to read off your desktop or Netbook/laptop computer. This format also works well on Kindle Fire.

* ePub is quickly growing to be the most widely used eBook format. Use this format for iPad, Sony Reader, iPhone, Kobo, NOOK, BeBook, on your Desktop Computer and other eBook Readers.

* Prc and Mobi—both of these formats are compatible with Kindle.

I'm not sure how to get my eBook onto my new reader. Can you help me?

Follow these easy instructions!

For Kindle Fire:

1. Send an email to your kindle address (which you used to register your
Kindle Fire) with the file as an attachment. Files that are compatible are:
PDF, Prc, Txt, and Mobi. You can locate your kindle address by tapping Docs
on the main screen.

2. Access the email account on your Kindle and download attachment.

3. Wait about five minutes, tap the settings gear in upper right corner of
your screen, then tap Sync.

4. Your book should become available to view under the Docs tab.  If not,
try step 2 again after 5 more minutes and try again.

For Kindle:

1. Download/save the eBook file to your documents.

2. Connect your Kindle to a computer using the USB cable. Your Kindle device will appear in the same location as external USB drives usually appear. For Windows users, this is typically in the "Computer" or "My Computer" menu. For Mac users, the drive will appear on the desktop.

3. Open the Kindle drive if it has not done so automatically upon plugging in the USB cord. You will see several folders inside, one of which will be named "documents." This is the folder you will move the downloaded file into.

4. Locate the downloaded eBook and copy it into the documents folder. You can generally copy files by clicking and dragging the file to the folder or by right-clicking, copying and pasting.

5. Safely eject your Kindle device from your computer and unplug the USB cable. Your book should now appear on your kindle.

For NOOK:

1. Save your ePub file to your computer under your documents.

2. Plug in your NOOK into your computer with the USB cable.

3. Windows will recognize the device. Your NOOK device should appear in the same location as external USB drives usually appear. For Windows users, this is typically in the "Computer" or "My Computer" menu. For Mac users, the drive will appear on the desktop. You can also right click on Start, then Explore to locate this folder.

4. Locate your eBook folder.

5. Find the My Documents folder in your NOOK drive.

6. Click, drag and drop the eBook into the My Documents folder or copy and paste.

7. Be sure to properly eject your NOOK then unplug from computer.

9. On the NOOK do a Search For New Content. Your new files should appear in the My Documents folder.
